My paintings are always created in a spontaneous, completely free process and usually consist of several layers of material.
They flow out of my hand and become something tangible that I would otherwise not be able to express with words. I let myself drift from and with them. And that's what they should inspire.
The meaning behind the individual picture is not necessarily related to the object, the pattern or the object being depicted, but to the feeling it triggers in the viewer. To dive into a kind of flow with the picture in order to create awareness of the moment would be a wonderful purpose of my paintings.
There is always something new to discover or to have a different effect on oneself - to find peace or new energy. The most important thing is to be or become a free spirit.
Or to say it in the words of Pablo Picasso: "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life ."
I love to work with natural materials and so I have rediscovered the millennia-old art of encaustic for me.
Beeswax and damar (a natural resin) are used to produce a basic medium which is needed for both the primer and the production of the colours. Damar makes the beeswax more resistant and increases its melting point. The wax medium is melted and pigmented - opac or translucent. Many layers are applied on top of each other and fused together again and again with a propane gas burner. Layers or areas of pigmented shellac are "burned off" with the burner. This creates beautiful, unique and ever new lace or web effects.
Born and raised in the former GDR, I now live and work in Herzogenaurach in the south of Germany/Franconia. Already during my school days I enjoyed a children's drawing circle by artist Eberhard Frey in the castle of my home town Bernburg.
Even though I studied law after school, creativity has always played an important role in mylife. Self-taught in other fields too, I developed my own technique with pigmented wax, shellac, oil paint and pastel chalks over the years.
My pictures speak an own language - authentic, unconventional, driven by a free spirit.
